Clinical trial: [clinical trial] Study, trying out medicine or other health related treatments, a method usually practiced by mainstream medicine. Controlled clinical trials are used to test new drugs on its (predetermined) efficacy. Often there are four phases: Phase I trials, Phase II trials, Phase III trials and Phase IV trials. A clinical trial looks like a homeopathic proving but is different because a proving is much more based on the sensitivity of the empiric prover, there also have been homeopathic clinical trials which often were not effective according to scientific interpretations. The majority of clinical trials, prevention trials, are carried out by drug makers because of their vast budgets. The introduction of new medicine is mostly based on one set of controlled clinical trials. A minority of clinical trials is carried out by independent scientists servicing governments and other organizations.
