Stem Cell or original cell. Root cell of every cell, every cell in the body "stems" from this type of cell.

Stem Cells

[pl. stem cells < stem cells] There are three kind of stem cells: Totipotent, Pluripotent and Multipotent. All cells from the Zygote (phase embyo, day 1-7) are Totipotent stem cells because they can differentiate into any cell. Stem cells from the Blastocyst and the Fetus (next phases embryo) are Pluripotent because they can differentiate into almost any kind of cell. After birth, there are only Multipotent stem cells which can differentiate in limited kind of cells. Another kind of stem cells are those cloned, either from other stem cells or those extracted from cloned animals, this is done by biotechnology.
