[n. holism \ Greek: ӧλοϛ (holos) - whole; ӧλωϛ (holos) - wholly, altogether (Lat. omnino)*]
Seeing things in a greater context. A stream of people experiencing, thinking, feeling, involving life, science, health
etc., who like to consider the
universe "whole", altogether a unity, "the parts are
causes of the whole" **
In biology an organism is considered to be part of the ecologic system. Often
alternative medicine, such as naturopathy, homeopathy, acupuncture etc. treat
the organism not only as part of the ecological system, but as a greater
"ecosystem", named the universe. This in contrast to current allopathy
which localize disease and treat it as a local phenomena. Physicists are searching for an unification
theory (GUT Grand Unification Theory) which unites the theory of relativity
with quantum physics, but failed to do so until now and mostly seem to reject
the idea that such a GUT has indeed such far reached implications as holism
says it does. Holism seemed to become popular especially because of Buddhism,
Pantheism (Hindustan) and as a result the new age movement which represents
holism mostly.
Holistic
[adj. holistic < holism]
This site is advocate of holism but tries to limit
"religious" (see Jewish
perspective) or new age reflections because of their sensitivity but acknowledges
that "spirituality" is also a universal phenomena being part of
holism
