Question
By A.F. de Vries, September 5, 2006; moderated Feb. 15, 2007
The essence of homeopathy is very much near the essence of the relativity theory from Albert Einstein. Some 'fathers' of homeopathy, inclusive Hahnemann realized this in some way. Homeopathy has strong connections with general as well as special relativity. New developments in science concerning black hole analogies (vortices, singularities) and Ether theories of gravitation could give homeopathy a reliable foundation in physics, of course there is much 'space' to conquer.

Thus, the task is, not so much to see what no one has yet seen; but to think what nobody has yet thought, about that which everybody sees. Erwin Schrödinger
The discussion in science about the scientific mechanism in homeopathic dilutions continues. A well known study in the Lancet about homeopathy gave this conclusion: "This finding is compatible with the notion that the clinical effects of homoeopathy are placebo effects."1 The possible cause of this notion: "there is an a priori skepticism in the scientific community about its efficacy."2
Since most homeopaths work with dilutions beyond Avagadro's number they just know somehow there is a mechanism that explains this law of infinitesimals, quantum mechanics and relativity are at some point used. They feel that at some point the formula E=mc2 is appropriate, because they mostly have mass diluted until no mass but energy or information remains somehow. But how to explain it accurately? This research was done because current explanations are not satisfactory. Homeopathy and relativity are connected on the deepest level we can imagine.
There is ongoing research that try to resolve the problem of homeopathic dilutions in quantum physics.3 4 5 However in order to explain the problem of high dilutions just quantum physics does not resolve the problem because many dilutions are beyond the level of quantum physics. Homeopaths use even MM potencies which constitute a dilution of 100-1.000.000 which is way beyond all known perceptions of quantum physics. Here relativity could give the answer. Quantum physics plays a role in answering what happens around the area dilutions enter the quantum level, relativity explains what happens beyond.
Maybe the biggest "enemy" of homeopathy today is QSPR (Quantitative Structure Pharmacokinetic Relationship studies) a branch of pharmacokinetics. Here the behavior of substances at molecular level is studied, a perception beyond this level has simply no substantial "notion" yet. Scientists who did notice have criticized the Avogadro-limit high-school level chemistry argument, 4 6 (author: purely Newtonian) which is used to attack homeopathy. A "friend" from an unexpected source could be condensed matter physics, the study of the properties of materials formed when large numbers of atoms are condensed into liquid or solid states.7 Why? It is no much that this is the situation of homeopathic dilutions, it is about he opposite, but this science has to use general and special relativity to explain what happens at quantum level with superfluids (a fluid, such as a liquid form of helium, exhibiting a frictionless flow at temperatures close to absolute zero 8).
Since 1974 Stephen W. Hawking applied quantum mechanics to black holes predicting "mini black holes ", scientists try to invent laboratory conditions to produce the "Hawking effect". One of the promising studies is the study of the superfluid 3He (Helium) which led to the prediction of black hole analogies; this theoretical "quantum effect" has general applications.9 10 11 One application is nanotechnology,12 there is no reason why homeopathy should be excluded.
General relativity is an universal principle applying to everything in the universe. According to Einstein's general principle of relativity (or the general principle of covariance)13 every system of co-ordinates is a reference body with equal rights in the formulation of the general laws in nature.14 Einstein did not claim that systems are equal, no they have equal rights or they are similar in certain aspects. If said homeopathic dilutions are nothing or zero this would be a violation of this principle.15 Compare this with Hahnemann:
It becomes uncommonly evident that the material part by means of such dynamization (development of its true, inner medicinal essence) will ultimately dissolve into its individual spirit-like, (conceptual) essence. In its crude state therefore, it may be considered to consist really only of this underdeveloped conceptual essence.16
Hahnemann described in his own words more than 160 years ago the concept of general relativity in stating that by dynamization the crude substance will develop its inner essence; the "co-ordinate system" of the dilution (no matter how high diluted) has "equal rights" as the crude substance, this is in broad context the general idea of general relativity.H.A. Roberts (1942) a well known homeopath:
Vital force is the most fundamental of all conditions of the universe, and that the laws governing the vital force in the individual are correlated with the laws which govern all vital force, all forms of energy, wherever or however expressed.17 (author: general relativity)
Einstein’s general relativity is a generally covariant theory of gravity.18 W.A.Teller, in the foreword of "The science of homeopathy" from G. Vithoulkas, not mentioning the word 'relativity', did however write about it calling it "negative space/time" with negative mass traveling faster then the velocity of light which is connected to "levitational force" in the dilution.19a Vithoulkas quoting The Tao of Physics explaining how vital force can be seen by modern science:
Relativity theory has made the structure of electrodynamics much more elegant by unifying the concepts of both charges and currents and electric and magnetic fields. Since all motion is relative, every charge can also appear as a current - in a frame of reference where it moves with respect to the observer - and consequently, its electric field can also appear as a magnetic field. In the relativistic formulation of electrodynamics, the two fields are thus unified into a single electromagnetic field.19b
According to general relativity it does not matter how diluted a substance is, it always has its own point of reference and has a "relation" to the substance. Whether the remedy cures is a whole other story, but this "relation" could make the diseased condition "irrelevant" when rightly administered.
If the form of a physical law is invariant (unchanged) under a change of coordinates, then this gives us a symmetry principle.20 Symmetry is like general relativity an universal principle. Invariants behave the same everywhere in the universe, invariants are for example: The local vacuum speed of light, mass, the pressure scalar, the proper time between events along a world line, charge.13 With these conditions all "invariants" could be subject to homeopathic dilution whether it is a substance, the electromagnetic spectrum with light 21 as main representative or even time.22 According to the "physical reality" of many people and scientists this could be perceived as dreamy but for Riemannian mathematics it is actually no so special.
In quantum physics and also cosmology symmetries are often broken and this astounds scientists every time but somehow nature has an equal symmetry every time, everywhere.20 A theory or discovery with unsolved broken symmetry or other answers not given do not really present a problem for this subject.
Special relativity describes relativity from a system of co-ordinates. This means it describes physics of relativity locally. So what could happen with homeopathic dilutions? One theory could be:* With potentation it could be assumed that as it were locally a black hole (in homeopathic literature often 'white holes', this is the other dimension of the vortex 23) or black hole analogy (ongoing research) 24 25 most probable at the Fermi point (the symmetry between particles and anti-particles in weak interactions is violated. At this point the particle energy E = cp is zero)11 26 is created, because the ratio from the mass of the medium (the substance you dilute with) becomes relatively endless times greater than the diluted substance. In physics this very much relates to the relativistic 2-body problem, the theoretical problem to explain what happens with a single particle in a gravitational field (see also 35).
A model of black hole formation and subsequent evaporation will be presented which exhibits the transfer of information to a disconnected "baby universe".27
Some argue that if information can be destroyed in this way, then
With this assumption quantum physics and relativity would be strongly connected in the homeopathic remedy. The study of the black hole analogy is based on condensed-matter physics, which studies crystals and fluids. Some phrases from this research (intuitive associations with homeopathic theory):
Being insensitive to high energy physics, the asymptotic Hawking radiation is truly a low energy O(T ) phenomenon. This reinforces our confidence in the low energy predictions of the semi-classical treatment but does not take us any further concerning its dubious high energy predictions.25
I will also consider different effective spacetime metrics, which can be simulated in superfluids, including event horizon, ergoregion, rotating vacuum, antigravitating string, spinning string, inflation, etc.30
Then, the near horizon propagation of outgoing quanta resembles that of phonons in a moving random medium.31
Vortex at the Fermi point
The consequences of special relativity According to special relativity there exist dilutions (not to be confused with "dilations") of space,32 particles,33 or time.34 The combination of homeopathy and relativity seems counter-intuitive to some people but as the earth is traveling through spacetime 35(Einstein described this as traveling through the "Ether" but gave up the idea because of the skeptic Ernst Mach) and the universe expands (dilution density; the universe is already a dilution from the singularity of the big bang which might end in infinite dilution [Є = 0]35), mass itself contains these dilutions of time,.34 space, charge, any particle.30 One "Ether" theory consider mass as "dilatation centers”,35 which could obviously be "diluted". In this way of thinking, potentation of a remedy (usually with mass as origin) could not be considered a random act, but creating a relativistic frame where the ratio between the medium (mass), the tool which is used and the target dilution (no mass of original substance) becomes infinitely great as in agreement with general relativity.
In other words expressed in "homeopathic terms":
There is no other physical change than the ratio of the dilution, whether a dilution is 10-1 or 10-1.000.000, the "rights" of physics are the same because the only change is the relative position from the dilution, one "co-ordinate system" to the "reference body", just another "co-ordinate system" (read: this is no claim on a infinitesimally linear coordinate system; it is a claim on relativity).
Homeopathic potentation could thus be called "quantum potentation" or even better "relativistic potentation".
To repeat Hahnemann: In its crude state therefore, it may be considered to consist really only of this underdeveloped conceptual essence.16
This article does not claim to have a scientific consensus, it is build on an hypothesis, original research. One aim is to reach some kind of consensus in the homeopathic society that another spectrum of science needs to be covered to gain credibility. Secondary that at some point at least theorists of physics take homeopathic dilutions serious enough to do research into this subject. If the prove is delivered that homeopathic dilutions really work, this should have immense consequences on many fields of science, contact the author or the publisher of this article for anyone who think can contribute to the project of linking homeopathy with relativity.
